Terra Mazar wines are produced in the heart of Sicily, in the northwestern area, that is particularly vocated to the production of high quality grapes. This unique location takes advantage of the insular-Mediterranean climate, perfect for viticulture.
The property extends for 100 hectares of vineyards out of 110 hectares of land, owned by the Caruso family. The production system occurs in a winery fully equipped with the most modern winemaking techniques respecting the Sicilian tradition, environment and land.
CLIMATE AND SOIL
The insular-Mediterranean climate is characterized by mild winters and breezy summers. The annual average is around 18°C, reaching 35°C in August. The medium texture soil is rich of limestone with a good mineral endowment, characterized by the presence of countless pebbles. The clay-loam texture provides an excellent substrate for viticulture.
The vineyards have a density of about 5000 plants per hectare and are cultured with the spurred cordon system to give the vines an ideal physiological balance allowing total exposure to the sun and the perfect ripening of the grapes.
The company aims to give the right importance to the quality of the Sicilian indigenous grapes taking advantage from the cultural and historic heritage of this land without leaving aside the international grape varieties. The produced grapes are Nero d'Avola, Perricone, Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Grillo, Insolia e Catarratto.
